How to Paint Blue Green Skin

Hello hobby friends!

Welcome to another step-by-step painting tutorial from Ulverbite Miniatures. In this guide, we'll explore how to paint vibrant blue green skin for the Chosen of War W’adrhun models by Para Bellum Games.

This approach uses AK Interactive 3rd Generation acrylics and focuses on controlled layering, glazing, and stippling to create a dramatic and game-ready finish.

Paints Needed:

  • Primer: Citadel Mechanicus Standard Grey

  • Base: AK Interactive 3rd Gen Blue Green

  • Highlight Mix: AK Interactive 3rd Gen Snow Blue

  • Shadow Mix: AK Interactive 3rd Gen Dark Sea Blue

  • Final Highlight: AK Interactive 3rd Gen Ivory

Step-by-Step Process:

  1. Prime: Begin with a neutral primer to establish a balanced surface. I used Mechanicus Standard Grey, which offers an ideal middle ground for both cool and warm tones.

  2. Basecoat: Apply an even coat of AK Blue Green across all skin areas. Ensure full opacity before proceeding to highlights and shadows—this tone will serve as the core of your skin palette.

  3. Build Highlights: Gradually mix AK Snow Blue into the Blue Green. Work in thin, semi-transparent layers, focusing on raised areas like muscles, elbows, and knuckles. Build up brightness incrementally to preserve transitions.

  4. Deepen Shadows: Mix AK Dark Sea Blue into your Blue Green base to create cooler shadow tones. Apply this blend into recesses, undercuts, and other naturally shaded areas.

  5. Glaze Pure Highlights: Use a thinned glaze of pure Snow Blue to intensify the highlights. This adds a cool, luminous tone to the uppermost skin areas and helps unify the transitions from previous steps.

  6. Glaze Deep Shadows: Apply thin glazes of pure Dark Sea Blue into the deepest crevices to push the contrast. This gives the skin volume and definition, anchoring the color scheme.

  7. Final Stipple Highlights: Using a fine brush or sponge, carefully stipple AK Ivory on extreme highlight points such as the tips of elbows, noses, or brows. This technique introduces surface texture and emphasizes detail.

Conclusion:

With this method, you can achieve a dynamic, high-contrast blue green skin tone that’s ideal for the W’adrhun aesthetic—primal, and powerful.
